Roofs that bring buildings to life!

Christchurch LDS Case Study

This is before we started the work.

The roof consists of a typical concrete interlocking tile with various roof lights, fans, and boiler flues through the roof.

This is the side elevation and you'll clearly see that the lead flashing has failed. The vertical sheeting is very poor and has a water ingress problem.

Here we have a picture of the front of the building. We needed to reconfigure the pitch roof as it had always leaked.

We stripped the roof and our architect photographed the steels and the timbers to plan the work required to make good any defects and improve the roof.

This is the new detail where the tiles change pitch.

The architect confirmed that we needed to use a lay board with Alto lead adhered to the board and the top of the tile.

It was important that the material was flexible enough to adhere to the curves of the tile but ensure that the tiles sat perfectly flat.

Lead would have been too thick for this job and would have caused problems.

This is the rear slope of the roof nearly completed with just the ridge left to finish.

Alto lead has a BBA certificate so our customer was happy to use this as an alternative to lead but wanted to make sure that it was disguised as best we could.

As it's the same colour as lead we didn't want to chance it being ripped off for a quick buck!

The customer requested that the valley was swapped from lead to GRP with the tiles cut very tight.

The end gables had an additional row of tiles to avoid the lead forming a gutter and leak.

The complete gable was sheeted with powder coated aluminium to match the existing.

Mew flashings all round ensured that the complete detail was waterproof.

With adding insulation, it is important that the gutters, soffits and fascia are replaced at the new height.

This is the main entrance ceiling.

This is a view of the new soffit down the length of the building.

Here's the fruits of our hard graft - the beautiful brand new roof

And here's the rear slope complete with the change of level, waterproofed and only the tiles visible.
